Understanding the Scores

Flesch Reading Ease (0-100): Higher = easier. 60-70 is standard for most audiences. Below 30 is academic/graduate level.

Flesch-Kincaid Grade: US school grade level needed to understand the text. Grade 8 = readable by the average adult.

Gunning Fog Index: Estimates years of formal education needed. Ideal for general audiences: 7-8.

Coleman-Liau Index: Based on character counts rather than syllables. More reliable for technical text.
